Great Message to Artist

The advice I like to give young artists, or really anybody who’ll listen to me, is not to wait around for inspiration. Inspiration is for amateurs; the rest of us just show up & get to work. If you wait around for the clouds to part & a bolt of lightning to strike you in the brain, you are not going to make an awful lot of work. All the best ideas come out of the process; they come out of the work itself. Things occur to you. ~ Chuck Close

  1. Great advice, and it’s very true as an artist. As an artisan though planning is the work.. not the ideas or the isperation.. but the measuring, layout, formulation.. I’d much rather just start hammering away. Putting things together like a puzzle just figureing out which peices fit as I make them. But there is a real skill, I struggle with, bringing ‘the’ idea to life and not give life to ‘an’ idea.
    Practice, practice, practice. =)
