First Bench from the New Wood

 Oct 2010

You may remember that I have been working with a timber man who cut me some beautiful oak planks. Well the wood has been sitting around and drying for a while and it seemed to be time to do something with it.

The perfect opportunity came up when a friend asked me to make something I could donate to their church fundraising auction.  The auction was for the youth department and, as she said, they needed the money.

Well the wood was laying there and needed to be used.  So why not!

The problem was, the wood is not perfectly dry and the longer pieces are slightly askew and in need of more work….

So I just used a smaller piece.

The little bench turned out to be interesting and the wood worked fine.  I finished it with a heated wax coating with simple urethane on the wood.  Take a look and see what you think.

And if you are interested, you can bid on it at the Pleasant Hill Christian Church in Pink Hill, NC.

But, I think you have to be there to participate……

so you had better get going… it’s this Friday.
